A city alive with culture, Buenos Aires is a wonderful fusion of European and Latin American. Home of the Tango, you can take in a show or perhaps take a lesson in the dance itself. This is also a city of steak lovers, with parrillas (steak houses) found on practically every street. Shopping is also a national pastime and the nightlife is legendary.
Though nestled in a desert region Mendoza is one of the country’s most famous wine growing regions due to the extensive irrigation system in place. Biking is a popular mode of transport to get out and visit the vineyards, whilst the city is very walkable. There are plenty of outdoor activities available, with hiking up Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas, a particularly popular choice.
Another must-see in Argentina is the Iguazu Falls. On the border of Brazil, Argentina and Chile, these magnificent falls are taller and wider than Niagara Falls and are set within the midst of national park. There are many walking tours taking in the falls, and whilst the majority are on the Argentinian side, it is worth popping across the border to Brazil to get a better view of the entirety of the falls, including the section known as, ‘the devil’s throat’.
For a different side to Argentina, head to El Calafate, the gateway to the Patagonia region and the Glaciers National Park. This is also where you’ll find Perito Moreno Glacier which can be viewed on either a hike, stopping off at the many viewing platforms, or from the water. Due to the lack of light pollution in the area, at night, you’ll also be able to see far more stars than usual.
