Private jet charter and flights to Jodhpur
Known as the ‘Blue Cty’, Jodhpur is a fascinating destination located in the state of Rajasthan, Northern India. Resplendent 15th-century palaces and forts are set against a sea of blue houses in this otherworldly city, while exotic cuisine and intricate Hindu temple carvings give visitors a taste of the real India. Why not charter a private jet to Jaipur with Air Charter Service.Jodhpur has an interesting history; its houses were originally painted blue to signify that they were home to Brahmins, the highest rank in India’s caste system. If the name sounds familiar, it might surprise you to know that jodhpurs – elasticated trousers worn for horse-riding – are actually named after the city. The son of the Maharaja of Jodhpur is credited with designing jodhpurs back in 1897, in order to dress his polo team fittingly for a visit to the Queen of England.
The city’s main site is the formidable Mehrangarh Fort, built by Rao Jodha in 1460. Sitting high up on a hill watching over the city, Mehrangarh is one of India’s largest and most beautiful forts. In addition to the spectacular architecture, there are also galleries and shops inside the fort to explore. Other top sites include Jaswant Thada, an intricately engraved ancient memorial, Mandore and Mandore Gardens, and Balsamand Lake.
When it comes to temples you can take your pick from the bunch in Jodhpur. Chamundaji Temple, Mahamandir Temple, Shri Ganesh Temple and Rameshwar Mahadev Temple are some of the most popular. The Clock Tower and surrounding markets in the Old City are great for picking up gifts, jewellery and Rajasthan’s signature embroidered textiles.
Jodhpur’s most spectacular palace is Umaid Bhawan. Still home to some of the city’s royalty, part of the complex has been made into a five-star hotel, which is also home to one of the best fine dining restaurants in the city. Guests at the hotel can bathe in the intricately decorated Zodiac Pool – formerly the private sanctuary of royal ladies – indulge in a treatment at Jiva Spa, or take a walk around the expansive gardens.
The Blue City is a foodies’ paradise where many popular Indian dishes originated. The best way to experience its legendary flavours is to explore the city’s street food offerings, which include the hot and spicy mirchi vada (chilli fritters) and moreish puff-pastry dessert mawa ki kachori.
