DESTINATION GUIDE

Itami Airport

Itami Airport is the primary domestic airport, serving the Kansai region of Japan. The airport is named after the city of Itami, but it is officially known as Osaka International Airport. Although the airport still retains its international status, all international traffic was passed to Kansai International Airport in 1994. The airport has a single terminal, with 21 gates, with shops and restaurants located in the centre between the North and South sections of the airport. Itami Airport has a VIP lounge located in the central section of the airport, offering complimentary refreshments and newspapers, along with meeting rooms and business centre facilities. There are plans to upgrade the terminal’s infrastructure with the addition of a new pier for regional aircraft, in addition to a renovation of the existing terminal structure. The airport can accommodate a majority of wide body aircraft, with the exception of the Airbus A380. The airport has slot restrictions, due to limitations set by the local government, however there are potential plans to ease these restrictions.
